Advancing Nutrition Education Through Lifestyle Medicine: Integrating the Academic Certification Pathways into Your Nutrition Curriculum
Hosted by the Northeast Region.
As healthcare increasingly shifts toward prevention, treatment, and risk reduction through evidence-based lifestyle interventions, academic programs have a unique opportunity to prepare future registered dietitian nutritionists (RDNs) with highly sought-after competencies in lifestyle medicine.
Join Kelly Freeman, MS, RDN, FACLM, DipACLM, and Melissa Bernstein, PhD, RDN, FAND, as they introduce the ACLM Academic Pathways leading to lifestyle medicine certification. They will explore how integrating lifestyle medicine education into dietetics curricula can enhance program value, strengthen student recruitment and retention, support career satisfaction, and help programs differentiate themselves in a competitive educational landscape.
The webinar will provide an overview of lifestyle medicine, review the Academic Pathways to certification available to eligible students and faculty, and highlight the benefits of preparing graduates to become leaders in lifestyle medicine. Attendees will also hear a case study from Rosalind Franklin University showcasing how this institution successfully integrated the opportunity into its educational offerings and the impact on learners and faculty.

Big news for Missouri dietitians!
Through the collective advocacy efforts of MOAND and its members, Missouri achieved significant legislative victories this session. These changes mean Missouri will soon join the Dietitian Licensure Compact, and new graduates will be able to receive a one-time temporary license, allowing them to work as they prepare for their registration exam.
Here is what to expect regarding timelines and next steps:
Dietitian Licensure Compact:
State & National Staging: State board administrators at the Missouri Division of Professional Registration are onboarding with the National Compact Commission, which involves syncing state licensing data and updating local regulations.
Licensure & Fees: Dietitians will keep their main Missouri license through the State Committee of Dietitians. To practice in other states, RDs will need to buy a separate "Compact Privilege" which includes a national administrative fee along with a fee determined by the remote state.
Timeline: Since building the national data system and integrating with states takes time, the ability to issue privileges is not expected to begin until 2027.
Temporary Licensure:
Temporary licenses cannot be issued immediately after the law takes effect August 28, 2026.
Rulemaking & Required Approvals: The State Committee of Dietitians must draft rules, set up application fee structures, and get approvals from the Division of Professional Registration, the Department of Commerce and Insurance, and the Governor's Office before filing.
Timeline: The rulemaking process usually takes at least 9 months to finish.
Stay connected with MOAND for ongoing updates as we advocate for and communicate important changes affecting Missouri dietitians.
For additional information, check local board schedules through the Missouri Division of Professional Registration and the National Compact Commission (click the drop down by Compact Commission at the top for more documents).
