The Missouri Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (MOAND) is an organization of nutrition professionals residing, working or attending school in the state of Missouri. We are affiliated with the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, and have over 1400 members. There are seven district associations within MOAND, covering all regions of the state. An Executive Board and statewide committees and councils direct and organize the work of MOAND.

What is a Registered Dietitian?

A Registered Dietitian (RD)/Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN) is a food and nutrition expert who has met academic and professional requirements including: Bachelor Degree with coursework approved by the Accreditation for Dietetics Education; completion of an accredited supervised practice program; passing a national examination; and completing continuing professional education requirements.

RD/RDNs can hold additional certifications in specialized areas such as pediatric or renal nutrition and diabetes education. About half work in clinical settings; many work in community and public health, academia, research, business, journalism, and sports nutrition.


What is a Dietetic Technician, Registered (DTR)?

DTRs often work in partnership with RDs; they screen, evaluate, and educate patients. They work in clinical settings, health-care facilities, schools, restaurants, food companies, wellness centers, and public health agencies. A DTR must complete a two-year Associate Degree in an approved dietetic technician program, have supervised practice experience, pass a nationwide examination, and complete continuing education courses throughout their careers.
