About Us

The Missouri Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (MOAND) is an organization of nutrition professionals, residing, working or attending school in the state of Missouri. We are affiliated with the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, and have over 1400 members. There are seven district associations within MOAND, covering all regions of the state.


An Executive Board and statewide committees and councils direct and organize the work of MOAND. 

Our Members

Members of The Missouri Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics include Registered Dietitians (RD) and Dietetic Technicians, Registered (DTR).


What is a Registered Dietitian?
A Registered Dietitian (RD)/Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN) is a food and nutrition expert who has met academic and professional requirements including: 

  1. Bachelor Degree with course work approved by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics Commission's on Accreditation for Dietetics Education. Coursework typically includes food and nutrition sciences, foodservice systems management, business, economics, computer science, sociology, biochemistry, physiology, microbiology and chemistry.
  2. Complete an accredited, supervised, experiential practice program at a health-care facility, community agency or foodservice corporation.
  3. Pass a national examination administered by the Commission on Dietetic Registration.
  4. Complete continuing professional educational requirements to maintain registration.

A RD/RDN can hold additional certifications in specialized areas of practice, such as pediatric or renal nutrition and diabetes education. About half of all registered dietitians work in clinical settings, private practice or health-care facilities. Many work in community and public health settings, academia and research, business, journalism, sports nutrition and wellness programs. 

What is a Dietetic Technician, Registered?
Dietetic Technicians, Registered, (DTRs), often work in partnership with Registered Dietitians/Registered Dietitian Nutritionists, they screen, evaluate, and educate patients. A DTR will monitor and assist in the management of patient with diseases such as diabetes and obesity. 

DTRs work in clinical settings, health-care facilities, schools, restaurants, food companies, wellness centers, food service providers, public health agencies, government and community programs. 

A DTR must complete a two-year Associate Degree in an approved dietetic technician program, have supervised practice experience and pass a nation wide examination to earn the DTR credential, and complete continuing education courses throughout their careers.
